

Michael was born on June 9, 1959. He was raised in a military family and graduated from high school while in Germany. He graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. For the past 16 years he has worked for Ingenious Med, a medical software company, as a Software Engineer and senior Database Administrator.
While attending college at UF, Michael became a Christian and married Jeanette Hammond. Both Jeanette and Michael’s youngest son, Matthew Scott Prather, died in 2009. In 2011, Michael was blessed to marry Sarah Allen.
Michael was a lifelong learner. He was a voracious reader, avid photographer, enjoyed cooking for others, especially on his smoker grill, and traveling. Together he and Sarah traveled many different places, with his favorites being New Zealand, the Canadian Rockies, and Hawaii.
Michael was an active participant in his church. He led Grief recovery groups, numerous weekly Bible studies, and participated in foreign missions. For over 29 years he was part of an addiction recovery ministry through his church and was a founding board member of His Way Atlanta, a Christ-centered residential addiction recovery program for men.
Michael is preceded in death by his first wife, Jeanette Prather, Matthew Prather (son), and Julie Prather (sister). He is survived by his devoted wife, Sarah, his loving son, Stephen James Prather, his brother David Prather (Elizabeth), and sister Kathy Martin (Bill).
Visitation will be held in the Living Room at East Cobb Church of Christ, 5240 Roswell Rd, Marietta, GA, 30062, at 10:00am on Saturday, May 24, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:00am in the Auditorium.
