Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. Surrounded by his family, Norm Rose, age 84, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 3, 2025.
Norm was born in Glen Ridge, NJ on February 2, 1941 and spent his childhood in West Orange, NJ and Elkins Park, PA, graduating in 1959 from Cheltenham High School in Elkins Park. Norm attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1959 to 1963, graduating with a BS in Marketing and enjoying his time in the South. Following college, he spent time in the retail trade in New Jersey, then as a residential real estate agent in Philadelphia. There, in October of 1965, his life changed forever when he met Nancy Harris at a Rosh Hashanah party. They began dating exclusively a month later, and by June of 1966 they were engaged.
With a little help from his future father-in-law, Norm found work selling magazine advertising and moved to New York City with Nancy, and they were happily married on October 23, 1966. In February of 1977, they welcomed twin daughters Jeanne and Rachel into the world. His girls immediately became Norm’s pride and joy, and in his eyes they could do no wrong. Norm eventually moved the family back to the South, this time settling in Roswell, GA as a sales manager, and remained in magazine advertising sales until he retired in 2014.
An active member since 1988 of Temple Kehillat Chaim in Roswell, Norm served as President of the Men's Club and enjoyed playing on the Temple softball team. He was also an avid bowler, poker and bridge player, and sports fan, especially of his beloved Tarheels. His years in sales, combined with a natural gift for humor and storytelling, meant that Norm made friends wherever he went - and some might consider him to be the originator of the modern Dad Joke. He was known to be extremely friendly and loyal, a natural planner and caretaker of his family, and an eternal optimist.
Norm will be remembered by his daughters Jeanne Zawacki (Adam) and Rachel Rose (Wes), his sister Janet Geduldig, his grandchildren Samantha and Eliza Zawacki and Hannah and Jacob Finger, and many more family and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Harris Rose, and his parents, Emanuel and Jane Rose.
Funeral services will be held graveside on Friday, May 9th at 11:00 am at Green Lawn Cemetery, 950 Mansell Road, Roswell GA 30075. Shiva services and lunch reception will immediately follow the funeral at Temple Kehillat Chaim, 1145 Green Street, Roswell GA 30075 in the Social Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Norman Edward Rose to the American Kidney Fund at www.kidneyfund.org or Jewish Family & Career Services at www.jfcsatl.org.
