

Steven Robert Van Tyle, 72, of Marietta, GA passed away on March 21, 2017, surrounded by his loving family & friends. He was born January 2, 1945 to Robert (Bob) and Dorothy (Dot) Van Tyle in Frankfort, IN. After graduating from Frankfort High School, Steve attend Indiana University where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity-- graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Business Marketing in 1967. Steve joined the U.S. Marine Corp’s Officer Candidate School in his senior year. During basic training he met the love of his life, Sylvia Neal; after a whirl-wind courtship they were married before he shipped out. Steve proudly served as a Marine Captain during the Viet Nam war. After returning home, Steve began a 46-year career in the pharmaceutical and medical device industry. His work allowed him to travel the world for business and with Sylvia for pleasure.
As a Marine Veteran, Steve was an five-year member of the Marine Corps League Woodstock Detachment 1311, volunteering to participate in various League endeavors in support if the community and his Marine Brothers, including becoming a mentor to new Detachment members. Steve was well known for his knowledge of Marine Corps History and was always willing to share that knowledge in a monthly column on the Detachment newsletter. Steve was a proud Marine Corps Veteran and supported various Marine Corps League Vietnam functions. He also volunteered as a mentor for visitor's to Vietnam Moving Wall Exhibit when it came to Woodstock, Georgia. Steve VanTyle's service and dedication to the Marine Corps and the Marine Corps League can be best summed up with the following: Once a Marine, Always a Marine; Semper Fidelis (Always Faithful) and Frater Infinitas (Brothers Forever).
Steve was also very involved as Lay Leader and Staff Parish for Mountain View Methodist Church in Marietta.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sylvia, and a daughter and son: Stacy Van Tyle Damico and her husband Chris of Roswell, GA; and Steven Van Tyle and his wife Acacia of Maryville, TN . His grandchildren are Hannah and Reed Damico; and Skylar, Aidan, Ryleigh, and Noah Van Tyle. He leaves behind one sister, Nancy Van Tyle of Sarasota, FL, and a loving extended family and large group of friends.
