Virginia Elaine Pigott

17 October, 192629 July, 2020

Mrs. Virginia Elaine Pigott, age 93, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2020. Virginia was born on October 17, 1926, in the city of Ruff, Washington, the daughter to the late Gottlieb and Rachel Pfaff Roloff.

Virginia met the love of her life, Dexter, in Washington for the first time as a teenager, when Dexter, smitten with the lovely Virginia, invited her whole family to go ice skating. Several years later, Dexter returned from war and reconnected with Virginia only to find her otherwise engaged. Nevertheless, Virginia and Dexter would soon be married, and the rest is history.

Virginia and Dexter welcomed three children over the years: Steven, Cynthia and Ronald. With Dexter serving as a US Navy corpsman in a career spanning 30 years and numerous deployments, Virginia set about raising their kids and maintaining the family household.

And over the years the family she nurtured blossomed. In addition to being a loving mother to her children, Virginia became a beloved grandmother, great grandmother and even a great-great grandmother. In these years as the family grew, Virginia also cared for Dexter as his health failed due to a long battle with Parkinson’s disease, which claimed his life in 2001.

While known by the varying titles a beloved matriarch receives – Mother, Grandma, Nana, GiGi – she was universally named as the picture of elegance and grace in the family. Nothing pleased Virginia as much as her daughter Cynthia helping her get dressed to the nines, with perfectly styled hair, and makeup expertly applied. And she never left the house without just the right sampling of an ever-growing collection of fashionable jewelry.

Ever watchful over her family, Virginia could be expected to phone on the eve of a trip to warn about safety. And if a storm were on the way, a call from Nana would serve as an early warning to any child or grandchild foolish enough to not take it seriously. Never one to back away from an opinion, family gatherings were always marked by her sharp wit and quick laugh.

She was truly a blessing to her family over these last many decades, demonstrating in equal parts the power of stewardship, of love and of humor.

Along with her parents, Virginia is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dexter Earl Pigott, dearest brother Bill Roloff and cherished granddaughter Michelle Pigott. She is survived by her children, Steven (Debbie), Cynthia (Mike) and Ronald (Gina) and her many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

A private service to honor the life of Mrs. Virginia Elaine Pigott will be held on Saturday August 8, 2020 at 12:00 pm at Roswell Funeral Home
