After graduating from Moultrie High School in 1948, Wandell enlisted in the United States Air Force with the 55th Fighter Squadron as a radio technician. His military career was short lived due to an injury while performing his duties in 1949, after which he was granted an Honorable Discharge. Wandell was a businessman/salesman for many years in the Atlanta Area. He always wanted to be of service to his community and did so through his positions as a Special Deputy Sheriff with Fulton County under Sheriff Leroy Stinchcomb, and then later as a certified member of the Fulton County Sheriff’s Posse (Reserves) under Richard Lankford after receiving his P.O.S.T. certification in 1986. Wandell also served as a Juvenile Court Bailiff at the North Fulton County Annex and retired in 2005 with the rank of Asst Chief. Wandell also was a certified American Red Cross First Aid Instructor and served the community as a Volunteer First Responder. He was always one to accomplish everything he put his mind to.
An avid traveler, Wandell’s love for flying and cruising took him all over the world, with adventures around every corner. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, and boating. Wandell loved Cadillacs and motorcycles. Enjoying every moment was his goal, but what was most important was his family and friends, making memories with them to last a lifetime. All those who had the honor to know him will surely miss him.
Along with his parents, Wandell is preceded in death by his loving wife of 39 years, Ethel Hames Wells; son, Jonathan Murray Wells, and brother, Jackie R. Wells.
Wandell is survived by three children: W. Mark Wells (Susan), David W. Wells (Willene), and Cheryl W. Gilbert (Richard); sister, Gwen Colson; brother, Kenneth Wells; grandchildren: Laura Hammonds (Walter); Leslie Dixon (Bradley), Lindsey Duncan (Bradley), Jonathon T. Gilbert (Cassie), Ryan E.
