

Corrie “ Socorro” Zagala Chicano, 65, of Walnut, California, was called home by our Lord on August 22, 2015 at about 2 pm in Queen of the Valley Hospital, located in West Covina, California, due to complications of her kidney failure.
The Funeral Mass shall be held at 10:30 AM on September 5, 2015 at Queen of Heaven Mortuary, 2161 S. Fullerton Road, Rowland Heights, CA 91748. Reverend George Tabangcura of St. Lorenzo Ruiz Catholic Church will be officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on September 3 and September 4, 2015 at Queen of Heavens. Burial at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery shall follow after the Funeral Mass. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Queen of Heaven Mortuary.
Corrie was born in Manila, Philippines in 1950. She completed High School and continued on to receive her Bachelor Degree in Public Administration in 1974 from Centro Escolar University.
Corrie was married to Stephen (Estefanio) E. Chicano in 1975; they were married 40 years.
Corrie worked as a Distribution Center Clerk at the West Coast Distribution Center of the Navy Exchange Service Command for 17 years. She enjoyed cooking, going to swap meet every weekend, meeting people, and watching TFC TV serials and collecting recipes as well as monitoring her Facebook account. She loves watching her son, Harris, plays basketball at all levels, from grade school to the University level.
She shall be remembered for her generosity, her friendliness, her kindness, her cooking of “kare-kare” and “pancit” and her putting Christmas decorations yearly at her Walnut home and her knowledge where to eat out for Filipino and Chinese food.
Corrie is survived by her two children, Susan and Harris; her husband, Stephen; her 4 grandchildren, Dominick Kastner, Stefani Kastner, Elizabeth Kastner and Rebecca Kastner; her sisters in US, Rosalie Zagala Mojares, Rosalinda Zagala Manalo, Becky Zagala Smorra, and Rose Zagala Mojares, her eldest sister in the Philippines; her nieces and nephews; and the rest of her family and friends.
Corrie is preceded in death by her parents, Juan Zagala and Aurelia Birondo.
The family would like to thank the medical staff of Covina Intercommunity Hospital, Kindred Hospital-San Gabriel and Garden View Acute Rehabilitation Center for their excellent and dedicated work.
Corrie’s family would like to say, Thank You, to all who have provided flowers, condolences and sympathies as well as donations in their hour of grief and bereavement.
