Mike, 
You are now and will always be the love of my life. We married so very young and even though 50 years flew by, it was not long enough.   You broke my heart when you left so quickly. One minute we were talking .. and the next minute you were gone - no hospital, no tubes; just you and I in our home.  I held you in my arms trying to get you to stay with us, but you and God had other plans. 

We have been blessed with a beautiful family. Your sons, Michael and Craig, married beautiful girls, Maryanna and Denise and they presented us with six amazing grandchildren - Christopher, Brittney, Gabriella, Jacqueline, Jacob and Julianna. Oh, how you loved us and how proud we are of our family!  We did everything together and I am left with so many happy memories. We travelled together as a family, with friends and just you and I. Each of us has a special memory of you.  

Our journey together has come to an end and I am left with a void in my heart and wonderful memories of the life we shared.  I love you with every beat of my heart. You were and will always be my Prince Charming

Mike it is hard to say good-by to you. We have been friends for so many years an shared so many experiences. When Steve met you in high school he had no idea you would eventually fall in love and marry his sister. Throughout our lives you and Liz were there for every important event but what we will miss most are all the times we were together just sharing stories or watching movies and eating popcorn. You will never be forgotten but will live on forever in our memories

I was so very sorry to hear about Mike's passing. Knowing him since grade school is a long time, and as an adult to spend some time with you both at past Christmas brunches was always a pleasure. 
I know this is a hard time for your family and his presence will be not one to be filled, but I hope all your memories will help with the loss.

I hadn't seen Mike in many years, but I remember him as a fun guy at school.  Interesting that he lived here in Whittier area, but we never ran into each other.

Mike was one of my first friends in California. My family had moved to South Whittier from Chicago when I was about 10. Knowing how lonely I was for my friends back East, my mother quickly enrolled me in the nearest Catholic School with the hope that would help me acclimate to our new life. It worked.

Mike and I met coming home from St. Mary's school. He lived about six blocks from my new home. We immediately took to one another and he asked me to come over some day. 

As pre-adolescents we were fascinated with the idea of growing up. We exhibited our willingness by learning the Latin Mass and becoming altar boys for Brother Raymond at St. Mary's Church. Mike and I were the new guys and so they scheduled us to serve at the six AM Mass many times. We worked together well, sensing the right moment to chime in with the prayers and help the priest with the ritual actions.  The priests liked our performance.

However at that time, we were in many ways, still children and loved to play. We rode our bikes like mad around the big park near his house. We also built  and shared plastic model cars and planes.  With less than a decade from the end of World War II, like all our peers, we were fascinated with model tanks and half-tracks. We collected toy soldiers and organized them into opposing armies. As soon as we would get home from school, we got together to stage huge battles.  Our front porches were covered with camps and war zones.  B25 bombers crashed landed into grass oceans while bazooka teams blew away platoons of the enemy off the porch railings. We laughed and made war noises into the early eveningmostly explosions, but also a lot of gunfire and whining machinery. Mike's front porch ran across the front of his house and was perfect for these noisy war gamesand to us; war really was just a game.

After reveling in the losses and gains of an evening, Mike's mom would hand out PBJ sandwiches which would call a halt to all hostilities. They weren't really hostile at all, Mike and I fired up our imaginations simply to create excitement and action. We presented warring events to each other with no sense of competitionrather something more like improvisation. 

After our PBJ, I usually collected my toys, put them in a shopping bag, hopped on my bike, and rode home. 

Mikes parents were very different than mine. Sometimes, his father would come home from work while we were playinghe would always be wearing a grey suit. He would give us a weary smile and continue up the stairs into the house. My father worked in a factory. At times, we could see him walk by us on his way home from work. He carried his empty coffee thermos and wore his blue shirt and oil stained blue jeans.  

One day, we were inside the house washing sticky peanut butter and jelly from our fingers when we heard a huge crunch and a cry. Mike and I ran out to see Mike's father holding a small plastic troop carrier that I had assembled. Apparently, I had left it on the step and he hit it coming up. I expected him to rage as my father might have. Instead, he shook his head and smiled. I said that I was sorry to have left the toy in his path and he remarked that if toys were the only things that got in his path it would be all right. He asked how much the toy cost and pulled out his wallet. I told him that I could always get a new toy and didn't mind  and that he should not have to pay for it because of my mistake. Mr. Walker was adamant that I should have the money to buy a new model toy. Mike looked at me and did not know what to say but he blurted out I've got lots of glue.
That is friendship I thought.

It was not only an honor to know Mike, but an incredible privilege. We will always cherish the time we had and remember the wonderful outstanding 4th of July BBQ's. Thank you for the memories, the friendship, your warm welcome and lastly the wonderful advise you always offered us. We use to get together regularly for the Fourth of July. My mom says that Mike and my dad, Al, use to love setting off fireworks with such boyish enthusiasm in our family backyard. She said they even seemed to love it more than us kids. It was always a great time and such fun memories

The service for Mike was beautiful & the chapel was full. Mike will be remembered fondly by us. He was a good man devoted to his family. Your son, Mike greeted me warmly & his appreciation was apparent. I missed speaking to Craig. There were so many officers there to show their brotherly love. How nice for all of you. I was happy to share a few brief moments with you after the service, & wish I'd been able to make it to St. Gregory's. You were blessed to share your life with Mike for so many years...it's never long enough. May he rest in peace until we meet again.

I so remember the Sweetest Day in 1965, October 23rd, when you and Mike married. Two  high school sweethearts barely out of school.  Over the years, you and Mike built a loving and strong family unit with two great sons, and were further blessed with beautiful grandchildren. The love, commitment and devotion between you and Mike are so clearly evident in the pictures. What an absolutely beautiful family and life you two made together, and how many wonderful memories he left to cherish.
