

Edward John Mensik was born in Chicago by Bohemian immigrants. He moved to California at age 3 and spent the rest of his 93 years in Sacramento. Sadly he passed away August 23, 2011. His father and mother were from Prague, Bohemia. His mother was one of nine children and entered the United States at age nine. His father was the eldest of 13 children and was 12 years old when he entered the United States. Edward went to St. Francis Elementary School and was the second kindergarten class of the school’s history. He graduated in 1936 from Christian Brothers High School. He entered the Army at Fort Bennings, Georgia in 1942. During WWII his service was as an infantry soldier with Heavy Weapons Baton in the 3rd Armed Division as well as Paratroopers and Special Investigations in the 16th Armed Division.
In 1945 he returned to the United States to marry Margaret Helen Walthers. He worked for the State of California for 30 years and was active in his Catholic faith. He will be missed by his three daughters and their spouses. His grand children Troy, Perrie, Ryan, Dustin, Wendy, Dan and Lauri. Also missed by great grand children Sydney, Taylor, Attia, Neriya and Trajan. He is predeceased by his wife Margaret.
