On April 1, 2017, John Ging Poon was taken by the Lord to his eternal resting place at the wonderful age of 101. He was born in San Francisco but nurtured in China in his formative years. John lived in Stockton, Los Angeles, and Wichita, but the majority of his life was spent in Sacramento.
John will always be remembered for his humor, smile, commitment, and determination. He enjoyed making people smile with his jokes, games and many brain teasers. He was a loving husband and a very caring father. He loved the Lord and served Him faithfully throughout his life.
John served in the army as a Military Personnel Officer during World War II. He started his service as a Private and ended up graduating as a Second Lieutenant from Officers Candidate School. In civilian life he had many occupations: 1) Cook and manager at Chinese restaurants, 2) Medical records clerk at UCD Med Center, and 3) Accountant at Army Depot and Aerojet General just to name a few. His favorite past time was going outside to tend to his yard and garden.
John leaves behind his beloved wife of 70 years, Daisy, children Diana and Timothy, and unofficial adopted daughter Jennifer Yee, along with her husband, Alan, and their three children, Jason, Jeremy, and Jessica. John has many nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces, and great-grandnephews who will fondly remember him. He was preceded in death by his sister Lai Hing, and his three brothers, Tom, Fred and Paul.
The family would like to thank all the relatives and friends for their heartfelt prayers, condolences, support and offers of help in the wake of our loss. We also want to give a special thanks to all the people at Blossom Ridge Care Home for the love and care that John had during the last 2 years of his life. The family feels so blessed to have family, friends and acquaintances who were a part of John's life.
