Manny was born in Redding, CA and passed away on Feb. 15, 2021 at the age of 95 in Orangevale, CA. He was the only child of immigrant parents from Spain, Emilia and Nicasio Leon.
He attended Sacramento High School and after graduation went to Sacramento City College.
During WWII he enlisted in the Navy and was enrolled in the V12 Program that sent him to UCLA, University of Texas and Southwestern University. After the war he became an auditor and Bureau Chief for the state of CA for 40 plus years.
After his father’s death his mother married Augustine Amorena and they had one son, August, whom through the years looked to Manny as a role model. Manny enjoyed watching his brother play baseball through the years. Manny loved all sports, especially watching the S.F. 49ers and the S.F. Giants. He loved the summers where all the family gathered at Santa Cruz. He was a wonderful son to his Mother Emilia.
He was the loving father of Gail (Daniel) Campbell, proud grandfather (PopPop) of Tiffany, Christopher, Brandon, Tyler, Dylan, Dustin and Dalton, brother of August (Sally) Amorena and uncle and God Father of Karie (Jim) Sutton. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Genevieve “Gene” Leon, granddaughter Alexandra and nephew David.
An active dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus and Son’s in Retirement (SIRS) along with many other activities. He was an avid jogger with his brother and a member of the YMCA.
A most generous and kind man. He was loved by so many and will be deeply missed.
