Patrick Ford O’Neil, 72, of Sacramento, CA, passed away peacefully at home on April 26, 2026, with his loving son by his side. He was a fighter who faced his long illness with unwavering courage and optimism until the end.
Patrick was born in Honolulu, HI on February 3, 1954, the son of the late Patrick O’Neil and Francis Van Hooser. Due to his father’s military service, he spent part of his childhood in Connecticut and the Philippines. As a young adult, he briefly lived in Chico, CA for work before returning to the Sacramento area, where he spent the remainder of his life.
In his earlier years, Patrick played competitive tennis as a longtime member of the Laguna Creek Racquet Club, competing in tournaments and forming many lasting friendships through the sport.
Patrick spent over 30 years working in the wholesale formal wear industry, where he built a reputation for excellence, warm relationships with clients, and a keen eye for style. A natural communicator, Patrick was well regarded by colleagues and clients alike, and left a lasting impression on those he met through his work.
He was a devoted father, deeply proud of his children and their lives, and remained a constant and engaged presence for them throughout his life. He offered guidance, humor, and a lasting appreciation for quality, taste, and the enjoyment of life’s finer moments.
Patrick had a quick wit, a gregarious spirit, and a charisma that could light up a room. He was a man of many passions— listening to his favorite music, tending to his bonsais, eating at his favorite restaurants and roasting his own coffee beans. He loved sports and was a lifelong fan of the San Francisco Giants, 49ers and Sacramento Kings.
He is survived by his son, Kevin O’Neil; his daughter and son-in-law, Megan Mueller and Felix Mueller; his granddaughter, Mia Mueller; two brothers, Terry O’Neil and Tracy O’Neil; his sister-in-law, Maureen O’Neil; his dear friend, Jean Ngyuen; his beloved cat, Kiki; and many other family and friends who will miss him dearly.
Patrick’s cremains will be interred at the Buddhist Church of Sacramento columbarium. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date to honor Patrick’s life and legacy.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Happy Tails Pet Sanctuary online at happytails.org, a cause close to his heart.
