Letting Go
The Angels gathered near your bed,
so very close to you.
For they knew the pain and suffering
that you were going through.
I thought about so many things,
as I held tightly to your hand.
Oh, how I wished that you were
strong and happy once again.
But your eyes were looking homeward,
to that place beyond the sky.
Where Jesus held His outstretched arms,
it was time to say goodbye.
I struggled with my selfish thoughts,
for I wanted you to stay.
So we could walk and talk again,
like we did - just yesterday.
But Jesus knew the answer,
and I knew He loved you so.
So I gave to you life’s greatest gift,
the gift of letting go.
Obituary
The measure of the man, Reginald Trent Rodgers was known for his love for his family and friends, his strength of character, and his love of sports. He enjoyed the simple things in life like, the warmth of the sun, camping, playing in the park with his girls, and the outdoors. On many occasions, he and his girls would gaze into the sky and pick-out the shapes in the clouds. The measure of this man is also implanted in your memories; to his daughters, he is their hero, their buddy, and the Pancake King. His is his wife’s best friend. He was known as husband, dad, son, brother, uncle, and cousin. ,He was your friend and personal trainer. A smile may emerge on your face as you recall how you crawled out of the gym after working-out with him; how he would welcome you into his family, or how he loved to flex his he-man muscles. Love, smile, and enjoy life, this is how Reggie wants to be remembered.
God called Reginald Trent Rodgers on Monday evening, October 4, 2010. The illness was something that he lived with and never allowed it to define him.
