It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Sal, who departed this life peacefully on May 14, 2026, surrounded by his family in Sacramento, California, at the age of 71.
Sal was born on February 3, 1955, in El Paso, Texas, to Rodolfo and Maria Lucero.
Sal was a proud and dedicated member of the Operative Plasterers' and Cement Masons' International Association (OPCMIA) Local 300 for 40 years. Throughout his four decades in the trade, he took immense pride in his work, leaving his physical mark on countless buildings across the Sacramento area.
When he wasn’t smoothing stucco, he was casting a line at the crack of dawn, waiting patiently for the perfect catch, or simply enjoying the peace and quiet of the water at Boca Lake, Sal was a true fisherman at heart. He taught us more than just how to bait a hook and tie a proper knot; he taught us the value of patience, the thrill of the "one that got away," and how to appreciate the quiet beauty of nature.
While our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing he has finally gone to that great, peaceful fishing hole in the sky, where the water is always perfect and the fish are always biting.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 47years, Nancy; his children, Jesse, Jason, Joey; his mother, Maria, his sisters, Lisa, Melinda, Diana; his cherished grandchildren, Hailey, Emma, Harper, Allie, Oliver, Tatum, Chris, Jill, Sofia, Jacob, Nicolas, and his many fishing buddies, friends and loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his father, Rodolfo (Rudy) Sr., his brother Rudy Jr., and his grandson Jaxon.
A Memorial Service will be held on 1 June 2026 from 5pm - 9pm at Nicoletti, Culjis & Herberger Funeral Home, located at 5401 Folsom Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95819. Family, friends, and anyone who shared a good laugh or a fishing tale with Sal are invited to attend and share their memories.
