

Haines and Grace Phillips Haines, and passed away peacefully on December 27, 2015. Preceded in death by his brother John P. Haines and survived by his loving wife Joanne, sons; John and Wilbur (Pamela), grandchildren; Kaitlin, Mary and Joshua, sister Mary Glover and brother Charles. He will be missed by many including his beloved nieces and nephews with whom he remained close throughout his life.
Bill graduated from McClatchy High School and Sacramento City College, and then embarked upon a 37 year career with Standard Oil of California (now Chevron), including 3 years in Belgium as a marketing manager for Chevron Oil Europe. He was a member of Ben Ali Shrine Washington Lodge #20 and Sacramento Court #119 of the Royal Court of Jesters, several Rotary Clubs, and served as Vice President of The Sea Ranch Foundation. He became interested in genealogy and developed a detailed family history reaching back to the family of Richard Haines, Quakers who came to America in 1679 in one of William Penn’s ships. He also loved golf, trout fishing and crossword puzzles.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Mercy Hospice and California Caregivers for their compassionate care which brought much comfort to Bill's final days.
It was Bill's wish that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Joel F. Glover Memorial Foundation, 525 Hammill Lane, Reno NV 89511, or to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento CA 95817.
