Dr. Richard E. Ernst

Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Mary (nee' Moser); his children Dr. Richard Jr., Steve, and Kathie Ernst and Dr. Christie Kovacs, and his grandchildren Heather, Emma, Andrew, and Elliot. Richard was predeceased by his grandson Justin, and his brothers Edwin C. Jr. and Roland P. Ernst.

Richard served honorably in the 94th infantry division during World War II and was awarded 3 Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. Upon returning to civilian life, he earned his medical degree and joined his father and brothers at Ernst Radiology Clinic. Richard was proud to have been the chair of the radiology department at DePaul Hospital.

After retirement, Richard and Mary enjoyed taking metalworking art classes at Meramec Community College, and traveling. Richard remained active up until a few weeks before his passing.

A visitation will be Thursday, January 3 from 4-7:30pm at Kriegshauser West Mortuary 9450 Olive Blvd. 63132, with a Celebration of Richard's Life to follow from 7:30-8pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Pillar Catholic Church 401 S. Lindbergh Blvd. 63131 on Friday January 4 at 10am. Richard will be buried with Full Military Honors at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to Daughters of Charity Foundation of Saint Louis, Honor Flight or Saint Louis Zoo Friends are greatly appreciated.
