Howard M. (Rosengard) Ross, 92, of Peabody, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born on June 27, 1932, to the proud David and Susan (Asner) Rosengard, Howard was raised in Haverhill, Massachusetts, where he grew up surrounded by cousins and extended family. He later lived in Malden, Lynnfield, and ultimately Peabody.
A proud veteran, Howard served in the Korean War, where he worked in communications. His dedication to service was only matched by his commitment to education. He earned his MBA from Suffolk University in just three years, demonstrating both perseverance and a deep desire for personal growth. Howard often credited his business acumen to his early work at Malden Jewelry.
Howard enjoyed a fulfilling career as a respected hospital administrator at J.B. Thomas Hospital in Peabody for 22 years. After retirement, he continued to stay active, working for Rigaku and volunteering on the Board of Temple Beth Shalom in Peabody.
Howard was predeceased by his older brother, Jerome Rosengard. He is survived by his loving wife, Sara C. Ross, with whom he shared 72 years of marriage. Together, they had three children: Frank Alan Ross (who predeceased him), Mark Ross (and his wife Janice Ross), and Laurie Smith-Michaels. Howard is also survived by four grandchildren who brought him immense joy: Andrea Ross, Danielle Ross, Jordan Smith-Michaels, and Nathan Smith-Michaels.
A man of many interests, Howard loved celebrating Jewish holidays, family gatherings, fishing, playing bridge, reading, and traveling. He was known for his generosity, warmth, intelligence, humor, and his ability to make everyone feel included. His kind spirit and legacy of love will be cherished by all who knew him.
Services will be held for Howard Monday, February 17, 2025 at 10:00am at Stanetsky-Hymanson Memorial Chapel. 10 Vinnin Street, Salem, MA. Interment will follow at Children of Israel Cemetery, 324 Middle Road Haverhill, MA. Shiva will be observed following all services from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at Temple Tifereth Shalom in Peabody, MA.
