Hyman M. Shumrak – of Peabody, entered into rest on Friday, September 6, 2019 at the age of 89. Hyman was born on September 23, 1929 in Boston to the late Charles and Ida (Gould) Shumrak. Beloved husband of the late Rita Shumrak. The loving father of Amy Sklar and her husband Frank and the late Ellen Myers. The cherished grandfather of Jessica and Randal Sklar. And the dear brother of Benjamin Summers.
Hyman grew up in Dorchester. He attended Northeastern University where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering. In 1954 he married Rita Sacks but was soon after drafted into the Army. Upon his return, Hy and Rita started their family, they raised their two daughters in Peabody. Hy worked as a computer programmer for Unisys. He enjoyed playing tennis and softball. At his heart he was a homebody, spending countless hours carving wooden geometric pieces. He had an extensive collection of these carvings and was eager to talk to anyone who would listen about his passion. Hy will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
A graveside funeral service for Hyman will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2019 at 10:00AM at Shepetovka Cemetery, 776 Baker Street, West Roxbury, MA.
Shiva will be held at the home of Frank and Amy Sklar, following services until 7PM and will continue Monday, September 9th from 1-4PM and 6-8PM.
