Irene Gilberg, 96, of Boca Raton, Florida, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She spent her life giving to others, and those who knew her felt that generosity every day.
Born in Chelsea, Massachusetts, to Milton and Gertrude Stone (Uchenik), Irene grew up in a close-knit family that shaped her deep sense of loyalty, warmth, and connection. She shared a beautiful life with her beloved husband, Saul Gilberg, until his passing in 2005. Together, they built a home filled with laughter, strength, and unconditional love.
Irene was predeceased by her sisters, Charlotte Rivetz, Marilyn Freedman, and Eleanor Glou, and her brothers, Gerald, Sheldon, and Bernard Stone, and daughter-in-law Evelyn Gilberg.
Her greatest pride and joy was her family. She was the devoted mother of seven children: Gary Gilberg (Edda), Richard Gilberg (Sasha), Robert Gilberg (Jill), Andrea Cohen (David), Jayne Goldman (Lee), Carol Goldman (James), and John Gilberg (Rhonda). She adored her 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her endless happiness and pride.
Irene raised her family in Swampscott, Massachusetts, where her home was always open—full of people, conversation, and life. Later, in Boca Raton, she continued to form close friendships and create community wherever she went.
To know Irene was to feel truly seen and cared for. She had a special way of making people feel comfortable and valued, whether through a warm smile, a kind word, or simply her presence. She approached life with optimism and fun, along with love and a quiet strength that carried her through all of her 96 years.
She was an accomplished and passionate bridge player, achieving the distinguished rank of Gold Life Master, and a loyal Boston Red Sox fan who rarely missed a game. But more than anything, Irene will be remembered for how she showed up for the people in her life—with generosity, positivity, and a full heart.
Her legacy lives on in the family she adored and the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
Burial will be private. Shiva will be held at Village at Vinnin Square clubhouse on Tuesday, 1-5 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
