
James “Jim/Snoopy” M. Horwitz – of Nahant, passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at the age of 78. He was the beloved husband of the late Charlotte (Forti) Horwitz, father to Aaron and Joshua Horwitz, and brother to the late Joan (Horwitz) Arnold and her late husband Robert. He was the son of the late Norman and Helena (Bowes) Horwitz. Jim is also survived by his cherished niece Karen, Kelly, and the late Kathy, as well as his devoted partner, Patsy Emberley.
Jim grew up in Dorchester, graduated from Charlestown High School, and proudly enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the USS McMorris DE-1036 during the Vietnam War. His service continued with the Merchant Marines. After his military service, Jim worked for what is now known as Verizon, from which he eventually retired.
In his retirement, Jim became a life member of the Essex Agricultural Society, where he worked as security during the Topsfield Fair. He was also a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Jewish War Veterans, Elks, NRA, and the Danvers Fish and Game Club. His commitment to community service extended to volunteering as a flagman for local veteran’s associations, a role he took great pride in. A dedicated member of Son’s Israel Temple for many years, Jim also recently attended Temple Ner Tamid of the North Shore, always with pride in his Jewish faith.
Jim was a man of many talents, known for his vast knowledge and quick wit. He could answer every trivia question at game nights and was a true Jeopardy! aficionado. His dry humor and sharp intellect never failed to bring joy and laughter to everyone around him.
One of Jim’s greatest passions was riding his Harley Davidson. He took part in Rolling Thunder in Washington, D.C. on several occasions, as well as the Sturgis Rally, Daytona, Laconia, and countless charity rides across the country. Traveling and riding were some of his greatest joys.
Jim cherished time spent with family, friends, and respected colleagues and clients, always bringing his signature warmth and humor to every relationship.
A funeral service for Jim will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2025 at 12:00PM at Temple Ner Tamid of the North Shore, 368 Lowell St, Peabody, MA 01960 with interment at Sons of Abraham Cemetery, Cole Street, Beverly, MA 01915. Shiva will be held at Temple Ner Tamid of the North Shore, 368 Lowell St, Peabody, MA 01960 following the interment from 2:30 PM- 6:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made into Jim’s memory to his favorite charity Tunnel to Towers Foundation (Supporting America’s Hero’s)2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306.
