Martin Shuman, a devoted family man and respected optometrist, passed away on April 18, 2025, in Groveland, Massachusetts. He was born in Lynn, Massachusetts, where he began a life marked by service, dedication, and deep familial love.
Martin graduated from Lynn English High School before pursuing his professional education at the Massachusetts School of Optometry. His commitment to helping others led him to serve as an optometrist in the United States Army, where he was honored with the National Defense Service Medal for his contributions. Marty has served on the board of directors at the Brotherhood Credit Union in Lynn for over 30 years
Throughout his life, Martin—affectionately known to many as Marty—found joy in both his work and his personal passions. He shared a rich and loving life with his wife, Roberta Ginesky Shuman. Together they created countless memories birding and capturing nature through photography. Their shared adventures were a source of happiness and connection that endured through the years.
Marty cherished time spent with his family above all else. He delighted in fishing with his Granddaughters and took great pride in preparing holiday meals for those he loved most. Whether it was his signature brisket or a delicious pasta dish, Marty’s cooking became a beloved tradition around the family table. His granddaughters Emma and Allie Fandel brought him immense pride and joy, and he relished every moment spent with them.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife Roberta, his daughter Ilana Shuman Fandel and her husband Sean Fandel; by his granddaughters Emma and Allie; by his brother Barnet Shuman; and by all who were fortunate enough to know him. He was predeceased by his parents, Rose and Norman Shuman.
Marty had an eye not only for vision but also for value—he never passed up the thrill of finding a great bargain. His warmth, humor, and generosity left an indelible mark on those around him.
