

Ralph Kaplan, 91, of Swampscott, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of Harriett (Levine) Kaplan, with whom he spent 68 loving years of marriage. Devoted son of Harry and Anna Kaplan, and brother Bernard Kaplan (of blessed memory). Cherished father of Anne and Bob Selby, Roz and Brian Moore, Susan Kaplan, Judy and Bill Mishkin. Adored grandfather of 11 – Joe and Ari Selby, Steve and Rachel Selby, Kate and Dan Urman, Scott and Anne Moore, David Mishkin, Amy Mishkin and Jaime Moore (of blessed memory) and 10 great-grandchildren. Ralph was president of Kappy’s Fine Wine and Spirits, a four- generation family business, where he was a recognized leader, both locally and nationally, receiving dozens of awards for his acumen, including an Honorary Doctorate from Salem State University. Ralph was also a passionate philanthropist, loyal friend and respected community leader, who devoted countless hours and resources to support many causes. Known as “Mr. Israel Bonds”, he raised millions of dollars for the State of Israel. A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, March 6 at 11 AM at Congregation Shirat Hayam, 55 Atlantic Avenue, Swampscott. Interment at Congregation Shirat Hayam Cemetery, Temple Israel Section, 506 Lowell Street, Peabody, MA. The family invites guests to Kernwood County Club, Salem, MA, following the interment until 6, and on Monday from 2-6 at Kernwood.
