Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Bessie and Maurice Marder. Mr. Marder was a 1964 graduate of Lynn Classical High School and a 1969 honors graduate of Northeastern University. A 1974 graduate of Suffolk University School of Law, Mr. Marder worked as a staff reporter for The Item while attending Suffolk University and opened his own law office in downtown Lynn shortly after passing the bar.
While at Northeastern, he worked as a reporter at The Item on a cooperative education assignment. He was enrolled in the ROTC program at Northeastern and upon his graduation, was commissioned as an Army second lieutenant. He served a tour of duty in Vietnam and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. He was a highly respected trial attorney on the North Shore and a member of the Massachusetts, Essex County and Lynn Bar Associations and appeared regularly in both Federal and State Trial Courts.
A Mason, Mr. Marder served on two different occasions as Master of Mt. Sinai Lodge. He was also a member of Boston Yacht Club of Marblehead. Bob and his wife Judy were passionate world travelers and has a special love for cruises with Holland America Line, which honored them in 2006 by having them christen the cruise ship, MS Noordam.
In addition to his wife, he was the uncle to Dana Marder of Avon and his children and grandchildren. He was a brother to the late Joseph Marder formerly of Randolph.
Services at the Stanetsky-Hymanson Memorial Chapel, 10 Vinnin St. SALEM on Sunday at 11:00AM. Interment following at Congregation Shirat Hayam Cemetery (Temple Israel Section) Peabody. Following the interment, the family will be at 47 Forest Avenue Ext. Swampscott to receive relatives and friends until 5PM.
