

Sherman "Sherm" Freedman was born on October 26,1930 to Flora and Abraham Freedman in Lynn, Massachusetts. After graduating Lynn English High School, he then graduated from the Lynn Independent Industrial Shoemaking School and later worked at his father's factory Ronnie Shoe.
Drafted out of Lynn he served in the United States Army in Korea. In 1954 he married Norma Polonsky. Moving to Swampscott in 1963, he raised three sons Brad, Gary, and Lee. In 1992 he welcomed his daughter-in-law Esther Rose who married Dr. Gary and later, grandchildren Dr. Zachary Freedman and Dr. Vanessa Freedman. He and Norma were married for 72 years.
He and Norma owned Brad’s Junior Shoe Shop in Brighton, Mass and later Sherm worked for Sears, Roebuck & Co. for many years as manager of the shoe department.
He was active in Babe Ruth Baseball as a team manager and president of the league. He was on the Swampscott Recreation Commission and served as chairman. His biggest contributions were as a member of the Freemasons where he was Past Master of Mount Tabor Lodge and as gabbai at Temple Beth El (later Congregation Shirat Hayam).
Graveside services were held at Pride of Lynn Cemetery on January 20, 2026. In lieu of sending flowers the family asks that you please donate to the Shriners Children’s Hospital, Boston or Dana-Farber Cancer Institute / Jimmy Fund, Boston. Arrangements by Stanetsky-Hymanson Memorial Chapel, Salem.
