Shirley Marion London of Salem, MA entered into her final rest on January 11, 2019 at the age of 92. Beloved wife of Hyman “Hy” M. London (predeceased). Devoted Mother of son’s Elliot I. London and his wife Kimberly and Michael London and his wife Susan. Cherished Grandmother of Todd London and his wife Jessica and Missy Chicre and her husband Alfonso. Also survived by her great grandchildren, Isaac, Eva and Noah, her sister-in-law Cynthia Ankeles, and many nieces and nephews, including Gail Graff and Heidi Ankeles. Predeceased by her parents Rose and Louis Lacritz, her brother Eugene Lacritz, and her sister-in-law Ruth Graff.
Shirley grew up in Salem and she and her husband Hy raised their family in Marblehead. They also lived in Swampscott for several years before moving back to Salem, where they resided thereafter. Professionally, Shirley worked as a bookkeeper for many years, and worked along-side her husband Hy owning several businesses, including a pharmacy and a liquor store. Both Shirley and Hy had a strong work ethic and moral character, which they instilled in their children. Shirley was very outgoing and gregarious, she enjoyed spending time with cherished family and friends and especially enjoyed playing her weekly game of mahjong. Shirley had a great love for music, and she loved to sing; she played the accordion as a young lady and shared her musical talents by entertaining the troops as part of the USO.
Funeral Services will be private at the family’s request, with internment at the Montefiore Cemetery in Everett, MA.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Shirley’s memory to the charity of your choice.
