Date of Birth: December 2, 1929
Date of Death: March 25, 2025
Ann Marie Holloway Cummins died peacefully in her sleep, in the early hours of the morning of Tuesday, March 25, 2025. She was born in Oakland, California on December 2, 1929. Ann was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She enjoyed going on long road trips and always with a special friend, family member or companion. Whether it was cross country, up the West Coast, or down the East Coast, it was always an adventure. The journey and the time spent with them on these trips was the most important part of the travel, to Ann, and the destination was a great opportunity to share her joyful spirit and love with others.
At the age of two, Ann moved to New Jersey and grew up in the town of Millington. She would spend lots of time with her paternal grandparents in Tennessee, as well, and loved the time with them on their farm. She spent most of her childhood and young adulthood in New Jersey, where she met the love of her life, Thomas Chappell. Life, however, had other plans for both of them. During their lives they remained in touch and eventually they did reunite years later to continue their love story until Tom passed away in 2004.
During her life, Ann married, had children, lived in New Jersey and Florida, and eventually returned to her California roots. While living in Florida, Ann graduated from Nursing School and returned to New Jersey and worked as an ICU Nurse at Muhlenberg Hospital in Plainfield, as well as a nurse with Dr. Shapiro and others. Once she returned to live in California, Ann continued to work as a nurse with Lindora Medical Centers for many years and with her wonderful personality and experience contributed to the success of many of their locations. She also worked as a nurse for physicians in private practice in Orange County. Upon retirement, not a woman to remain idle, she volunteered well into her eighties, at South Coast Hospital in Laguna Beach on the Surgical Floor. She always had a smile, a kind greeting and encouragement for all who crossed her path.
Ann had a very full life filled with ups and downs. Her faith in God kept her grounded. He gave her a beautiful family and the gift of a beautiful voice. Ann loved to sing and during high school she was accepted to The Julliard School but life had other plans there as well. She continued her singing in the church choir and sang on a daily basis, expressing her joy & love for life. Ann lived a prayerful life and with God’s help, no matter what direction life took her, she would make the best of her circumstances and as Frank Sinatra would say, “She Did It Her Way”
