Keizer ~ Donald Townsend was born on June 14, 1919 to pioneer parents Benjamin and Dora Townsend. He graduated from Salem High School in 1937 and enlisted in the military in December of 1941, after the attack on Pearl Harbor. While in the Air Force he piloted B-24 Liberators in the Burma-India-China Theater and completed 62 missions. Prior to shipping out he married Louise Kincaid who followed him to Oregon from Illinois. Don stayed in the reserves and retired as a Lt. Col. US Air Force.
After the war Don returned to Salem and started a long career with the State of Oregon Weigh Master Division. After his first wife passed away he married Margaret Krueger; they have been together for 40 years. Don and Peg spent many years after their retirement wintering in Arizona. They enjoyed the warm desert winters and their hobbies of woodworking and rock hounding.
