Maria was born October 5, 1938, in Kingston, Jamaica, the only girl with 4 brothers. She received her nurses training at University of the Indies, enjoying a long career as a registered nurse. Full of adventurous spirit, Maria moved first to New Jersey, then to Toronto, Canada, Roseburg, OR and finally to Salem, OR. For many years Maria worked as a registered nurse in IMCU and IV Therapy at Salem Hospital. Later she worked for First Call Home Health. Several years were spent working for the State of Oregon Dept. of Human Resources as a Medical Claims Analyst.
Maria's deep and abiding faith in her Savior Jesus Christ guided her life. She will be remembered for her fellowship with other believers and for her true dedication to Bible study. As a teen in Jamaica, she volunteered with Child Evangelism, teaching Bible classes.
Being outdoors, especially gardening flowers, brought her great joy. Walking several miles each day, exercising at the Courthouse and doing aerobics enlivened many days. Maria also greatly enjoyed long drives in the country.
Surviving Maria are her nephews, their wives, and families. Willamette Valley Hospice and Lancaster Village provided loving care during Maria's last days. Donations may be directed to Willamette Valley Hospice.
