

She, along with family, moved to Salem, Oregon when she was 19. During World War II she was a riveter working in the Portland shipyards. She met Arthur Young and they married in May of 1946. They had a daughter, Nancy.
She worked as a waitress before becoming a bank teller. She retired after 25 years with US Bank, University Branch.
Art passed away December 1966. Erna married Joseph Nesbitt in 1968. Joe passed away 1974. She married Charles Boyer in 1977. Chuck passed away in 1992. Her brother Leonard Wittenberg passed away in 2001.
Erna was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the Nile and the Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking, baking, travel and visiting with many friends. She loved flowers and birds.
Erna is survived by daughter Nancy (Ken) Carpenter of Salem; granddaughters Cheryl (Tim) Akimoff of Anchorage, Alaska; and Susan (Tim) Metzler of Monmouth; grandson Jeff Carpenter of Prineville; 7 great-grandchildren; sister Eileen (Ellsworth) Hobler of Fresno, California; and sister-in-law Pat Wittenberg of Henderson, Nevada.
Viewing will be Wednesday, July 13 from 10 am to 4 pm, with a funeral service following at 4:30 pm, both at Howell-Edwards-Doerksen Funeral Home. Private interment will be at Belcrest Memorial Park.
