Chuck was born 5 August 1932 in Detroit, Michigan to Edward Francis and Annie (Calvey) Farnell. Chuck graduated from St Benedict’s Catholic High School there and, after a brief stint at Wayne State University, worked at Chrysler before enlisting in the Air Force in 1952. He was stationed at March AFB near Riverside, California and married Margaret Patricia Yarnell in San Bernardino 21 November 1953.
Following his four-year stint on active duty, Chuck and Pat stayed in California as he started at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. That job was supposed to tide him over until he found something better. What followed instead was a series of promotions and assignments around the western states that carried him into eventual retirement. By then he was in charge of all Goodyear retail and wholesale operations in Oregon and Washington.
Just a few years later he lost his beloved Pat to cancer after almost 30 years. He was then fortunate enough to meet Anita (Kenney) Toll and they were married 18 February 1984 in Salem. Together they finished raising their younger children before enjoying life together in retirement. It was Anita who patiently cared for Chuck the last few years of his life when he most needed her.
Chuck is survived by his children Fred Farnell (Sharon Holcomb), Patty Danilson (Lee), Vicky Foreman (Greg), Mike Farnell (Loralie), Jerry Farnell (Michele) and step children Mike Toll (Julie), Tanya Salchenberger (Mike), and Jason Toll, along with 19 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by first wife Pat, his parents Frank and Annie, his brothers Bernard Francis Farnell, Gerald Michael Farnell and sisters Mary Patricia McCulloch, Marie Farnell, Lenore Theresa Ballestrini, Kathleen Farnell, and Ann Frances Farnell.
The family would like to thank Redwood Heights Assisted Living and Willamette Valley Hospice.
