Helen Gaston

Helen E. Gaston of Salem, Oregon died Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at the age of 94. Helen was born March 19, 1928 in Loma Linda, California and was raised in San Bernadino and Crestline, California. She married her one and only love, William M. Gaston on May 29, 1948 in San Bernadino, California . They were married for almost 60 years until his death in 2007. Helen was a homemaker, bookkeeper, avid reader and gardener, cook, baker (the best fudge in all the world), seamstress and crafter. She had a sassy personality with a gift of gab and wonderful sense of humor. She will be greatly missed by all. Bill and Helen resided in El Segundo, California and moved to Salem, Oregon in 1994. She is preceded in death by husband Bill and parents William A. Leffen Jr. and Helen F. (DeRenobe) Leffen. She is survived by daughters Laurie (Kurt) Faville of Vancouver, Washington, Sue (Don) Crossley of Salem, Oregon and grandson Kyle (Kelsey ) Crossley of Chesterfield, Virginia. Other beloved family includes John (Ginny) Gaston as well as many beloved cousins Nancy (Mike) Billings, Denise Preble, Linda Morris, Lynn Larson, Jenny Snipes, Alan Hild, family friends Kay and Kristie Wallace, Valerie Wallace (Larry Lapucia), Sara Matchett, Carol (Gary) Smith and Joyce (Robert) Degnan. We would like to send big and loving thank you to Brookstone Alzheimers Care Center for the 8 years of taking excellent care of our Mom, as well as, Serenity Hospice nurses Meg, Bobbie et al and the Serenity Hospice Pastoral Care Team. A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 20, 2023 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Salem, Oregon.
