4-18-1931 to 6-23-2018
Jim went home to be with the Lord on June 23, 2018. He was born in Madras to Allen and Ethel Vibbert. He was raised in Ashwood until 6th grade, when they moved to Salem so his older sister could attend the school for the blind. Jim returned to Ashwood every summer to work on his Uncle Aaron's ranch. Shortly after graduating from Salem High School, he enlisted in the Air Force serving as a mechanic during the Korean War. Jim had several different careers but enjoyed truck driving the most.
While in the Air Force, Jim married the love of his life, Helen, and they were happily married for 66 years. They had two children, Karen(Chris) and Gail(Craig); grandchildren, Kelsey(Cory), Bradley(Kelly), Abigail(Jared) and Andrew; great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Henry and Eleanor. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Bernita and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Henrietta, brother Roy, and sister Aletha. Jim's family was the most important thing to him beside his faith in the Lord.
Jim enjoyed helping others with anything and everything. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, working on cars, playing games and camping. He was a friend to anyone who met him...and always had a smile.
A special thanks to the care he was given at Brookdale Dementia & Alzheimer’s Unit. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, alz.org or 255 N. Michigan Ave, Fl.17, Chicago, IL 60601.
Jim's Celebration of Life will be July 13th, 2:00 pm at Grace Baptist Church, 4197 State Street, Salem, Oregon with reception immediately following. Arrangements made by Howell, Edwards, Doerksen with Rigdon-Ransom Funeral Directors.
