John served in the Army-Air corps during WWll. Upon returning from Europe he married Marion Holmquist on May 11, 1946, shortly after joining the Portland Police Force. He retired 30 years later as a sergeant of the traffic division. He also joined the Army National Guard working his way through the ranks to retire as a major in 1971.
John is preceded in death by his two sons John and James Harp.
John is survived by his wife Marion L. Harp (Holmquist), daughter Melody Harp, grandchildren Angela Allen, R. Scott Peters, Cynthia McClain, John N. Harp lll, Also 11 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren.
There will be a visitation on Friday January 16th from 11-1pm, followed by a funeral service at 1pm, at Howell-Edwards-Doerksen, and a graveside service at Belcrest Memorial Park at 3pm. There will be a reception following the service at 4475 Wildcherry Ave Se Salem, OR 97317. The family invites you to come to the service early for fellowship and desserts.
