Leslie Joe Turner

Leslie Joe Turner, age 67, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, February 24th, 2016, when he unexpectedly passed away at his home in Salem. Leslie (Les) was born in Jenks, Oklahoma to Leslie and Lucille (Scrivner) Turner. After graduating from Clovis High School in 1966, he met Jennifer Kay Guenther while the two were attending Fresno Pacific College as freshmen; they were married on July 25th, 1970. Together they had two sons, Jeremy and Joel. Les was a loving husband and Father. He was also a devoted member of the church, serving and nurturing the congregation in myriad ways. He had a fun-loving spirit, and a boisterous manner. He was always ready to tell a joke or share an entertaining story. Les was dedicated to his church, his community, and people he met along his life's journey. He was quick to offer anyone assistance, and did so with a gracious, compassionate, and often humorous manner. A voracious reader, he was often seen pouring over a multitude of texts on a wide variety of topics; it was this love of reading that made him the source of much anecdotal information. His wealth of diverse work experience enriched his life: a respiratory therapist at Henry Ford Hospital, an institutional kitchen manager and cook, and a process server were just a few of the interesting jobs that he held; in addition, he was always proud to say that he drove just about everything with wheels. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jennifer; his sons, Jeremy (Mona) and Joel (Ingrid Siadal); his mother, Lucille; and his brothers, Jeff and Daniel. His joyous laughter, storytelling, and vibrant personality will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him. Arrangements under the direction of Howell-Edwards-Doerksen with Rigdon-Ransom Funeral Directors, Salem, Oregon. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Les can be made to Kingwood Bible Church Property Management Fund. Funeral service will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, March 5th, 2016 at Kingwood Bible Church, 1125 Elm St NW, Salem. The family will greet friends following the service.
