Mered Shawn, age 75, died peacefully at home surrounded by family on November 8, 2025. He was born in Plainfield, NJ on September 14, 1950. Mered resided in Pompton Lakes, New Jersey some 27 years before retiring to Salem, Oregon. He graduated from Plainfield High School, Plainfield, NJ in 1968 and attended Bloomfield College, now affiliated with Montclair State University, NJ receiving a BA in History 1972 (concentration in American Political Science).
Mered S. Frankel is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Barbara ( nee Zirrolli ) formerly of Paterson, NJ, daughter, Deena T. Frankel, Aston , PA and son, Andrew D. Frankel, Forest Hills, NY. Mered is also survived by his sister Dara Holwitt and husband Eric of San Antonio, TX and brother Oren Frankel and wife Elaine of Manchester, NJ. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Mered is preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow Jacob Frankel and Betty (nee Kafka).
Before retiring, Mered worked for Passaic County in the department of Planning/Housing in New Jersey. He served as a Supervising Housing Assistant Technician for over 30 years.
During his life time, Mered was involved in many organizations which included serving as Directors for the Pompton Lakes Seniors Housing, Park East Terrace Co-Operative Apartments and Congregation Beth Shalom. He belonged to the Passaic County Grand Jurors Assoc (past president), Adam Reiser Social Club (past president), Bloomfield College Alumni Federation (past vice-chairman), Joseph M. Pizza Civic Association (treasurer), the Pompton Lakes Historic Preservation (past president) and member to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary in Hawthorne, NJ.
He also thoroughly enjoyed serving as a county committeeman and ward leader for the Republican Party for many years starting as a teenager and continued through his adult years. He was involved in many local and state campaigns throughout the years.
Private services will be held at a later date
followed by interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Totowa, NJ.
