Mildred Pearl Vincent

     Mildred (Milly) Pearl Vincent died April 24, 2021 in Turner, Oregon at the age of 103. She was born in Dallas, Oregon to John E and Lula Pearl Peters on August 17th, 1917. She was the 3rd of 5 daughters; Ruth, Beth, Jeannie, and Alice, born to her parents over 8 years. When Milly was 4, her mother died shortly after giving birth to Alice. Her father soon married Katherine Hildebrand, and a brother Johnny, and a sister Evelyn were added to the family. They lived in Dallas in Milly’s early years, then moved to Valsetz, and a few years later, Medford, Oregon. She went to school through the 8th grade, then her father felt her time would be better spent if she got a job.

     Milly met Richard Vincent in 1935 and they were married June 28th, 1936 in Medford, later moving to Hilt, California. Their first child, Kenneth, was born there in 1939. In 1944 daughter Susan was born in Yreka, California. The family moved to Eola, four miles west of Salem in 1946. Their home was the original site of the Eola post office in the 1880’s. The mail slot for incoming mail was discovered on the front of the house. Their third child Steve was added to the family in 1956.

     Milly enjoyed gardening in her large yard in Eola, and was proud of her many roses. Her favorites were the red ones, but then she had a thing for anything red, clothes, flowers, and she always pointed out red cars when she saw one.

     Milly also enjoyed traveling; Richard, Steve and Milly spent a couple weeks each summer for several years’ tent and later trailer camping in Oregon, Washington, California and Western Canada. Train travel across the country to visit family in Delaware and South Carolina were also favorite memories. She only flew in a plane twice when visiting her granddaughter Peggy and husband James Jones and her first Great-grandchild Shaylin in Nashville, Tennessee at the age of 80. She preferred keeping her feet on the ground.

     Richard died in 1997, after 61 years of marriage. In 1998 Milly moved to Turner Retirement Homes. Through her 23 years there, she lived in a variety of apartments, her favorite being the Nelson/Lehr Apartments beside Mill Creek. For the last several years she received excellent Residential Care in an Octoplex apartment. She often said she never made as many friends as she did at TRH. She enjoyed her years there and the friendships made.

     Milly loved attending Liberty Christian Church in south Salem, She loved meeting people and getting and giving hugs. One of the highlights of her week would be going to lunch after church with family and friends. Her favorite spots were KFC and Skippers.

     Milly is preceded in death by her husband Richard, son Kenneth, her Father, Mother, Stepmother, sisters: Ruth, Beth, Jeannie, Alice, Evelyn and brother Johnny.

     She is survived by her daughter Sue (Wayne) Murphy, son Steve (Kim) Vincent, Grandchildren Tracy (Magalie) Vincent, Tia (Steve) Weinstein, Peggy (James) Jones, Tim (Jami) Murphy, Heather (Eddie) Placencia, Nicholas (Stephanie) Vincent, Kelsey Vincent, and 10 great-grandchildren.

     The family wishes to thank everyone at Turner Retirement Homes for their many years of loving care and friendship; Willamette Valley Hospice for their help during her final days and special friends Jerry and Jean Kimme, Angie Bartel, and Jerry and Judy Sygney for taking the time to visit her and offer words of encouragement.

     A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 3:00 PM on August 17, 2021, which would have been Milly’s 104th birthday, at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service, 605 Commercial Street SE, Salem.
