SALEM – Nelda Darene Walborn was born to Amos Ardell and Gladys Mae Cavaness (Rimmer) at their home 20 miles south of Chadron Nebraska on April 25, 1934 at 2:50 a.m. Amos was a farmer and 30 years of age and Gladys, a housekeeper and 22 years of age when Nelda was born. She was a loving sibling to three sisters who preceded her in death and to four surviving brothers, Eldon, Marvin, Greg and Sterling. She attended three country schools by the second grade and then went to Chadron High School from second through twelfth grades, where she graduated in 1951.
Nelda is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Dave Walborn. When she was 16, she met Dave at church camp. They fell in love and were married three years later at Trinity Church of the Nazarene in Colorado Springs, Colorado on August 15, 1953.
Nelda committed herself to her Lord Jesus early in life on July 4, 1948. She became a member of the Chadron Church of the Nazarene a week later on July 11, and has spent over six decades being faithful and consistent in her Christian walk. Over the years, she served in numerous positions of leadership and service to her church, including 10 years as church secretary at Pasadena First Nazarene Church under Reverend J. W. Ellis and Dr. Earl Lee.
Nelda leaves behind her children, Parry Walborn of Salem, Oregon and Crystal Adair who now lives in Virginia, along with 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Nelda enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and was with them whenever she could be. Other special interests included cake decorating, photography and genealogy.
Dave Walborn wishes to thank Salem Home Care for their loving care of Nelda over the past few weeks.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Salem First Church of the Nazarene.
