Nick and I were close for a spell back in the late 2000's.  I have know him for almost 20 years, since he was a kid that played GTA in his underoos, 

Nick was riding with me to Woodburn on an errand.  On the way back - we got to talking about his future and what steps he was going to take to get his own car, place and really start his life.  First thing he said "why do I need a license when I don't have a car?"  I laughed, because his logic was iron clad - but I responded with "you can drive this one....."  He then laughed and said he didn't know how to drive a manual transmission.  I pulled over.  Got out and walked around to his side and opened the door.  Nick, was confused and asked "uhhhh what are you doing?"  I said "No time like the present.."  He hopped out and got in the drivers seat.  I had never seen him so excited and nervous all at once.  

Well, lets say he wasn't a natural, but he wasn't the worst I've seen - by a long shot.  First gear was nearly toast by the time he got it to go - but from then on out, he had it down.  He was able to drive use back close to Keizer without any coaching.  Nick let me know that he may have never learned to drive had it not been for that day.

Nick always knew what he wanted in life, it was always clear.  He never sugar coated it - you always knew where you stood with Nick.  I always envied his ability to not care what others felt or thought about him, he always had his confidence and passion for what was important to him.  I know a few things about Nick, He loved Nancy, Steph, Oliver and Sophia more than anything in this world.  He was always working to be the best Son, Brother and Uncle.   I will say - Nick IS one of my favorite Brothers.  I have little family, Friends are the family you choose and sometimes they choose you.  Nick is a dear Friend and Brother - I love you Brother - I will keep you alive through our times and experiences.  Rest easy Nicholas.
