Norm died in his home among family in Salem, OR after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born and raised in Salem. A graduate of North Salem High School, he developed his love of sports on their baseball, football, and basketball teams. Norm was drafted into the Army and stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. His time in service sparked his fondness for travel and German cuisine. He spent his free time coaching his children’s little league teams, hanging out with his buddies, working on his GTO, fishing, and hoping to bag an elk or antelope on a hunting trip. Norm retired from Winco Foods after being a warehouseman and Teamster for 30 years. Following retirement, he sought opportunities to travel with Nancy, his wife of 37 years, to many places across the US and Europe. He was always the first one ready to go, the first one ready to leave, and above all, a fiercely loyal partner and supportive father.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Helen, and his sister Marta.
He is survived by his wife Nancy, children Jamie, Jeff, and Colleen, grandson EJ, and nephews Jason and Billy.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to or visit a National Park in his memory. Celebration of Life will be held in the summer.
