

Shirley was born on her aunt’s farm in Independence, Oregon, and grew up in Salem. She attended Grant grade school, Parrish Jr. High, and graduated in 1953 from Salem High School. Shirley met and started dating her beloved husband, Norville DeWayne Hilfiker, at the young age of 14. They were married in 1954 and spent the next 60 years loving each other until Norville’s passing in 2014.
Shirley worked as an administrative assistant for various private and state government offices until she retired. Shirley enjoyed square dancing, league bowling, flower and vegetable gardening (which she loved sharing with her neighbors and family), jigsaw puzzles, and family game nights. She also loved walking on the beach collecting rocks and seashells.
Shirley will be remembered for her strength, putting everyone before herself, and for her strong love for her family.
Preceding Shirley in passing are her parents Willard and Geneva Vincent, her husband Norville, her daughter Denise, and her brothers Willard “Sonny” Vincent, Larry Vincent, and Terry Vincent.
Surviving Shirley is her son Douglas Hilfiker and his wife Lila, daughter Sandra Hilfiker, sister Beverly Swanson, and grand and great-grandchildren.
There will be a visitation held on Monday, November 14, from 4-8 pm. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 15, at 11 am at Howell-Edwards-Doerksen, followed by a committal service at Belcrest Memorial Park at 1:30 pm.
