Born April 22, 1918 at her grandparents' home in Gettysburg, SD. At the age of 16, her mother died, leaving her the oldest of ten children. In 1939 she took employment with the Farm Security Administration in Faulkton, SD, where she met and married John Reddick Morris. After John's service in WWII and the birth of their first daughter, they moved to Salem in 1946 where two more daughters were born. Shirley was employed as a bookkeeper by the State of Oregon for 27 years. Her life was very involved in home, family and church organizations. She held an office and/or committee chair in Altar Society at St. Vincent de Paul Church for many years. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading, traveling and animals, and she will be greatly missed by those who love her.
Preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother, Neal Russell; and sisters, Doris Baker Phalen, Noranelle Heckeroth and Elsie Mae Crossley. She is survived by daughters, Patti Morris of Puerto Penasco, Mexico, Kathi Ransdell of Lincoln City, Judi Morris of Salem; two grandchildren Brian and Danika Morris of Salem; brothers, Skip and Smokey Russell; and sisters, Nathalie Howard, Betty Reifenrath and Marlys Johnson. Her remains will be buried in Gettysburg next to her husband and parents. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent's Altar Society or to a charity of your choice.
