His parents Stan and Charlotte Luehrs welcomed him into this world on July 10th, 1952, in Hillsboro, Oregon. He was the youngest of three, having two older sisters. As a child, he developed lifelong passions for basketball, wrestling, movies, swimming pools, go-cart racing and cars. He had fond memories of playing basketball, sharing a love of wrestling with his grandma Ann, only paying 25 cents for a movie AND snacks, cannonballs off diving boards and racing cars.
Terry resided in the Pacific Northwest his entire life. He graduated from Forest Grove High School, spent some time at Oregon State University, resided in Stayton and Vashon Island before ultimately settling in Salem.
Many will remember the routines Terry enjoyed and his favorite things. One of his greatest pleasures was getting his hair cut every week. He liked to fly kites and roast hotdogs on the beach. Terry was consistently a huge fan of the Boston Celtics, Perry Mason, The Three Stooges, Cadillacs, Slurpees, Pepsi, Jif peanut butter, M&M’s, Neccos, Cheerios and so much more.
Terry was a critical thinker with an excellent memory and he loved to share his knowledge with others. He enjoyed sharing jokes, had endless stories to tell, remembered facts about countless topics, could recite quotes from just about every movie and always strived to learn more. Terry had a knack for talking to anybody and seemed to know who to call for just about every problem. One of his hobbies was to research the most recent technology. He was known to help several persons with their computer problems. Terry volunteered his free time teaching martial arts for several years during which he cultivated many long term relationships. Terry was also passionate about his powerlifting community. He dedicated decades to judging in competitions and coaching Team Oregon. The moments shared in the gym and traveling together will be remembered forever.
He is survived by his loving wife, Christie Luehrs whom he married in 2008; his children Jessica Allen and Troy Luehrs; six grandchildren; four great-grand-children; so many other family members and close friends. We will sincerely miss his wisdom, sense of humor, welcoming smile and big hugs.
Please join us for a celebration of life in memory of Terry on Monday March 4th, 2024, 5pm-7pm at Pringle Hall Community Center, 606 Church Street SE, Salem, OR 97301.
