It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Thomas Stanley Carmichael on November 12, 2023, at the age of 88. He peacefully departed this world surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Carmichael was born on May 29, 1935, in Lihue, Kauai, to parents Mr. James K. W. Carmichael and Mrs. Minna E. Carmichael. In April of 1941, Mr. Carmichael and his parents relocated to Maui, where he attended and successfully graduated from Maui High School in 1953. Later that same year, he enrolled at Oregon State College (now known as OSU), where he excelled academically while simultaneously being a valued member of the esteemed fraternity, Beta Epsilon-Delta Sigma Pi. Afterward, he transferred to Pacific University in Forest Grove and completed his studies in January 1958. It was in this very year that he united in matrimony with his beloved wife, Mrs. Janet Louis Jeys, in May. Following his graduation, Mr. Carmichael dedicated three years of his life in the U.S. Army, stationed in Washington State.
For the next 39 years, Mr. Carmichael pursued a successful career in retail management. During this time, he contributed his expertise and commitment to various prestigious organizations, including the W.T Grant Company, where he resided in Eugene, Portland, Denver, Moses Lake, Steilacoom, and Lewiston. He also worked for Payless Drug/Rite Aid, residing in Walla Walla, Richland, Twin Falls, Lynnwood, and Keizer. In Keizer, OR, he proudly held the position of store manager for a Payless Drug store. In 1996, his company was acquired by Rite Aid, and Mr. Carmichael gracefully retired from the industry in the year 2000.
Throughout their notable 62-year-long marriage, Mr. Carmichael and his beloved wife, Mrs. Janet Carmichael, joyfully raised four outstanding children: Deborah Cox of Keizer, OR, Tina Campbell of Tequesta, FL, David Carmichael of Snohomish, WA, and John Carmichael of Keizer, OR. In addition to their children, they were also blessed with four cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Carmichael's leisure activities included camping, fishing, swimming, bowling, golf, tennis, softball, various card games, and tending to his home's landscaping. He enthusiastically followed and supported professional sports teams such as the Seattle Seahawks and Oregon State football.
Mr. Carmichael was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Janet, and his two brothers. His final resting place will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, OR, where he will be laid to rest alongside his wife in a columbarium.
