

Dave was born on July 21, 1945 in Long Beach, California and was the third child of William and Maesy (Westergaard) Barber. He grew up in California attending school in Chino..
In 1963, Dave listed in the United States Navy in San Diego, California. He deployed to Vietnam 3 times and throughout his career he earned his Vietnam Service Medal with 2 bronze stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device and the Presidential Unit Citation with Gallantry Cross. He retired in 1983.
After the military, Dave worked a Swan Island and later owned and operated Dave’s Carpet Cleaning and Dave’s Windows. He retired in 2006.
In March 1977, he married Teresita Fortaliza in Olongapa City, Philippines. His new family moved to the United States in 1978 settling in San Diego and later Bremerton. He moved to Salem in the early 1980’s and was later divorced.
Dave enjoyed cars and cruise ins. He belonged to a Camaro Club and other car clubs in the area. He also enjoyed reading, nautical knots, smoking his tobacco pipe and tinkering with his electronic gadgets. Dave’s life was his family. He loved spending time with his kids and grandchildren.
He is survived by his son, Joel (wife, Erin) Barber, daughter, Crystal (husband, Tyson) Barber-Rill, mother, Maesy and sisters, Wilma, Diana, Carole and Cynthia along with 5 grandchildren, Makaila, Leilani, Tyson, Zack and Zane. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, William and his brothers, Lon and Donald.
