Alice Maud Tyrrell (ne` Macdonald) was born July 3, 1953 in Columbus, Ohio to Robert
D. and Mary Ellen Macdonald and died January 17, 2021 in Salt Lake City.
Always cheerful and upbeat, Alice was an accomplished clothing designer and
seamstress and was game for most adventures. During high school in Newtown,
Connecticut, she was a rotary exchange student in England which sparked her interest
in travel.
After graduating from the University of Utah, she became a special education teacher, a
challenging career choice that she faced with determination and skill.
Alice and her first husband, John Tyrrell, traveled extensively through the US and
Canada in their VW camper, usually with their dog aboard. Then came John Duncan
and 3 years later Aaron, to both of whom she was a devoted lifelong mother always
available for counsel, advice, and laughter. Her husband's love of baseball had Alice
working the concession stand for little league baseball games for many years.
Following John Tyrrell's death, Alice was introduced to Reinhard Mueller by close
friends, Jessica and Steve hook. Alice and Reinhard married in 2006 and immediately
started traveling and exploring- camping, hiking and kayaking throughout Utah with
many trips to Alaska, the U.K., Western and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and
Mexico with their travel pals Steve and Jessica.
Alice was a loving mother and wife, a caring and compassionate sister, an attractive
grandmother ("Nana") and great-grandmother, and a deeply faithful friend. She loved
traveling, reading, gardening, classical music, animals (especially dogs and cats) and
spending her time with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by John Tyrrell, and older brother Duncan and parents Bob
and Mary Ellen Macdonald. She is survived by brothers Doug Macdonald (Maru) and
Dave Macdonald (Charee) and sisters Jo Mattlock (Dick) and Margaret Stewart (Mark),
husband Reinhard, sons John Duncan and Aaron (Shanna), five grandchildren and one
great-granddaughter.
There will be a memorial gathering later in the spring when we can all be safely together
to celebrate the life of this lovely woman.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.wasatchlawn.com for the Tyrrell family.
