
Barbara Cecil Johnson 1932 ~ 2010 Barbara Cecil Johnson "Babs" died peacefully August 14, 2010 from the effects of Alzheimer's disease Barbara sprang into the world as a New Year's Day baby in 1932 to Margaret Thomas and Paul James Cecil. She grew up in Salt Lake City, graduated from East High School in 1949 and the University of Utah with a degree in education in 1953. She married Douglas R. Johnson on June 11, 1953. They remained happily married for 57 years. She was an active community volunteer. She served on numerous boards including being President of the Junior League of Salt Lake City where she oversaw the formation of the Flea Market. She also served on the boards of the University of Utah Alumni Association, the Boys and Girls Club, Utah Museum of Fine Arts, the Utah Girl Scout Council and the YWCA. Besides her community service, she was dedicated to her friends and family. At the University of Utah, she affiliated with Pi Beta Phi where she mad many lifelong friends. She remained active as an alumnus and served as the holding corporation president She was the consummate hostess whether it was for there bridge group, Supper club, badminton group, or countless family gatherings. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her husband Doug, her daughters Mary Jane Johnson (Mike Basquez), and Jennifer Foote (Dr. Mark C.). She adored her grandchildren Chas and Carol Foote. The family would like to thank Garden Terrace and Rocky Mountain Care-special thanks to Barbara's hospice nurse Bernadette for her loving care. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday August 18, 2010 at 12 noon at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 1342 East 500 South. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the or the charity of your choice.
