Our social butterfly, Bernice Miller Hebden was born to Mark and Muade Luella Miller June 3, 1911. She passed away at home with her daughter by her side on February 17, 2011 at the age of 99. Married Charles Gordon Hebden, later divorced.
Bernice worked as a Secretary all her life and was very proud of her profession. She worked for Senator Frank Moss when he was Salt Lake County Attorney and later for the Salt Lake School District. She was active in politics for many years, working on both Senator Moss and her brother Clyde L. Miller’s campaigns. As a young woman Bernice spent her summers in Leeds, Utah working in her grandparents boarding house while her brothers worked the farm. Those were the happiest years of her life and she spoke of it often. She was an active member of the American business Women’s Association (ABWA), Sego Lily Chapter and looked forward to the monthly get-togethers. Most of all she loved her family and friends, coffee at Village Inn, window shopping, traveling, and the days she spent at Neighborhood House.
Bernice is survived by her daughter Cindy (Clyde) Borland, her grandson David Mertes, granddaughter Melissa (Sid) Wood, three great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews who she loved like her own children. She is preceded in death by her brothers, Rudy (Nona) Miller and Clyde L. Miller.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Monday, February 21, 2011 at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 3401 Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, where friends may call Sunday, from 5 – 7 pm and one hour prior to the service. Bernice’s family would like to extend a special thanks to Neighborhood House for their loving care.
