Devyn Danielle Kerr, age 29, of Bountiful, Utah was called away on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at 7:20 p.m. She left this Earth peacefully in her home. Devyn was born on July 9, 1991 in Salt Lake City and is the daughter of Steven and Sheree Kerr.
Devyn graduated from Viewmont High School in 2009, receiving a partial scholarship to Westminster College. She then attended Westminster and successfully graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Psychology in May 2014. Devyn was enrolled at Westminster College, pursuing her Masters degree in Community Leadership and would have graduated Summa Cum Laude in May 2021.
She married Ciahlee Marlar on Sept. 13, 2018 in Salt Lake City and gained a daughter, Skylar, accomplishing her dream of a big wedding and having a family. Devyn was active her entire life, enjoying soccer, ice skating, cheerleading and modern dance throughout her younger years. In later years she loved river rafting with her parents, camping, skiing, hiking with friends, yoga and rock climbing. When her medical issues curtailed the activities she could easily do, she threw herself into grad school, work and spending time with her family and friends.
Devyn had the unique ability to connect with people. She always had a smile on her face and lit up both the room and the workplace with her sunny personality and genuine caring about all humans. She was involved in many volunteer organizations, including Team Rubicon, the Rape Crisis Center and several on-line support venues, connecting with others suffering from Mast Cell Disease, anxiety disorders, eating disorders and mental health disorders. Devyn was becoming a warrior for others like her with chronic illnesses by advocating for them and beginning research on how to change the medical disparity between physicians, patient’s and their families. She freely gave of her time to others and never gave up fighting for patient rights, human rights and common decency to others, no matter their problem or background.
Devyn had the chance to travel and was looking forward to being healthy enough to do more. She lived for a time in Nashville, Tennessee, traveled to St. Maarten and other Caribbean islands, and went to Thailand with other Westminster students to help a village with building a school for children. This was where she fell in love with elephants, getting an awesome tattoo on her arm, and collecting various elephant cups and stuffed animals. She adored the people of Thailand and their culture and kept in touch with several of the people she met there.
Devyn is survived by her parents, her brother Aaron Kerr and wife Cassie, her spouse and daughter, Ciahlee and Skylar, her grandmother Ruth H. Kerr, her aunt Deanna L. Kerr, her niece Krysta K. Benton and her nephews Jacob Kerr, Kade Kerr, GT Paice and Kaleb Shaeffer. She is preceded in death by her uncle, Frank “Tiger” Benton, and grandfathers Dean D. Kerr, Marvin S. Benton and William V. Bryant.
A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held December 1, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at K2 the Church, 5049 Murray Blvd., Murray, Utah 84123.
