On April 20, 2021, age 96, I passed on to the new adventure we all face at the end of our time on earth. I'm happy to be with my beloved husband of 48 years, Tom W. Welch; my loving and loved parents Harry and Florence Katzmyer; many friends/family I've missed for many years.
Here is some of my unique story. I was born to Florence and Harry Katzmyer in Green River, Wyoming, on September 5, 1924, and was raised on a ranch on Birch Creek in the McKinnon, Wyoming, Burnt Fork, Wyoming, areas. We traveled mostly by horseback or horse and wagon. After attending elementary school (grades 1-6) and graduating early from Burnt Fork with an outstanding education, particularly in English, I lived with relatives in "town" (Green River, WY) for high school. These were great days and I was a sterling scholar along with being Prom Queen and cheering on GR's football team. The team included an skilled and good looking player, Tommy Welch. He rocked my world. We were married January 2, 1942, at the Episcopal Church in Green River, WY. Tom enlisted in the Marines to fight in WWII and whenever possible I followed him within the states until he went overseas. Yes, I was part of THE GREAT GENERATION. We went from horse and buggy, phones on which anyone "on the line" could listen in and comment if they felt the need, no electricity or running water to today of which you are well aware.
I held several jobs over the years: School Board Clerk and superintendent's Secretary at Manila High School, U.S. Forest Service, Roland Hall St. Mark's School and most rewarding and impactful 36 years as Secretary, primarily in the Graduate Department of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Utah. I was considered dedicated and loyal to the job, the U of U, the Communications Department and the faculty and students. My meticulous work, attention to detail and tenacity were welcome. I made friends and was very happy working at the U of U into the beginning of my 80's.
My beloved family I have left behind are my son, Bob Welch (Sue) and their children Tom (Renee), John (Becky) and David (Dana), all living in the Denver, CO, area; my daughter, Judy Hoopes and her children Kimberly (Eric) living in South Jordan, UT, and Douglas (Kathy) living in Santa Cruz, CA. Great grandchildren; Austin, Ashley, Alexandria, Abigail, Annalise, Denali, Daci, Katelyn, Alexander and Hazel.
A few of my favorite things: My beautiful family, my china collection, show tunes, western music, big band era music, hummingbirds, my home of so many years, the family cabin, card games/word games and my roses.
Thanks to the folks at Cedarwood at Sandy for friendship and help in so many ways for four years. Also thanks and love to my Hospice friends and excellent caregivers . . . .Charlotte from Encompass, you wonderful, loving lady.
My final resting place is beside my husband at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park where my funeral will be held Sunday, April 25, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. A viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
