1929-2016
Alvin Ernest Weeks, better known to most as “Ernie”, was born April 30, 1929, the middle child of 2 siblings, to Alvin Edwin and Elizabeth Ingles Weeks. Ernie passed away June 8, 2016 surrounded by his wife and children. After spending his childhood in Vernal, Utah, Ernie met his sweetheart Elaine Alldredge and they were married in the Salt Lake City LDS temple November 4, 1952. They soon welcomed their two children, Joel Ace (born 1954), and JoAlice (born 1956). A graduate of both Fresno State and the University of Utah as a Doctor of Education, Ernie and family were soon able to call many places around the world home as he worked as a school administrator in California, Western Samoa, Saudi Arabia, and Utah. Ernie’s love of learning prompted him and his family to travel around the world in 1972, visiting such places as Indonesia, India, Lebanon, and Israel. After their children were married, Ernie and Elaine continued to see new parts of the world, mainly through serving foreign LDS service missions. Their service took them to Haiti, India, Paraguay, South Africa, and Malaysia. Perhaps most importantly, Ernie’s travels instilled in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren a love of learning and a desire to give selfless service. His unwavering faith in and love of Jesus Christ will continue to inspire generations to follow.
Ernie is survived by his brother Melvin; his wife Elaine of Salt Lake City; son Joel (Diane) of Salt Lake City, and daughter JoAlice (Jack) Seybert of Johnstown, Colorado; 9 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Alvin and Elizabeth, and sister Ella Beth Leavitt. Services will be held Saturday, June 11, 2016 at the Historic Rock LDS Church, 413 North W. Capitol St. in Salt Lake City at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Wasatch Lawn Cemetery, 3401 S. Highland Dr. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers or other gifts, donations be made in Ernie and his great-grandson’s honor to Autism Speaks at events.autismspeaks.org/tributes/ernieweeksmemorial .
