Floyd A. Johnson, peacefully returned to his Heavenly Father, and reunited with his beloved wife,
Lydia Stoll Johnson, whom he married in the Salt Lake Temple on September 20, 1951. He was born on May 17, 1926 in Delta, Utah, to L. Walter and Valborg Andresen Johnson.
He graduated from East High School in 1943, and received his Civil Engineering training at the University of Utah, Williamette University, and the University of Washington. He then served in the U.S. Navy during W.W.II. Following discharge, he completed a 2 ½ year mission to Brazil, for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
In 1962, Floyd and Lydia, along with their four young children, were called on a three-year Service Mission to supervise the construction of an L.D.S. chapel in Londrina, Brazil. During that time, he oversaw the site acquisitions and chapel construction programs throughout Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay. Upon their return, Floyd headed the Veterans Administration’s G.I. Home Loan and Home Construction programs in Utah for 22 years.
After retiring from U.S. Government in 1986, they continued their Church Service Missions to Tonga, Guam/ Micronesia, and the Northern Marianas; all were areas where he managed L.D.S. chapel construction programs. Years later, they filled a similar calling embracing Portugal, the Azores and the Madeira Islands. Their final mission was back to Brazil with responsibilities as Area Welfare Agents, returning home in 1998. Floyd’s domestic callings included serving as counselor in several bishoprics’, as Bishop, and as Stake Mission President. Dad and Mom lived a very remarkable and exemplary life, and their legacy of unwavering love and service to their family and to the gospel of Jesus Christ richly blessed us all and will live with us forever!
He is survived by his daughter Judy Young (Mark); son Marc Walter Johnson; daughter Lisa Leatham; son Todd Douglas Johnson (Cindy); 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death was his wife, Lydia; his parents; brother, LeRoy W. Johnson, sisters, Edythe Mitchell, Carol Webb, and grandson Robert Johnson.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2021, at 11 am, at the Riverview 8th Ward
(288 W. River Chapel Road) Draper, Utah. Viewing will be one hour prior to services from 10:00 - 10:45 with interment at the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
